What to expect at your audition

Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your scheduled audition to allow adequate time for check-in.  Your child will then be escorted to his/her audition room while you fill out our Audition Form.  Auditions are closed to parents and there is absolutely no video or audio recording permitted.

If you have misplaced or need to be reminded of your time, email our Operations Manager, Christine Califano.    Singers should warm up at home; there will not be warm-up facilities at the audition site.

LICC Harmonia singers
All students should prepare a short section (30 seconds or so) of any song for their audition.

Popular styles (radio tunes) should be avoided, as they often do not show off the full range of the singer.

Younger students (grades 1-4) can prepare a playground tune or nursery rhyme, such as "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" or "Happy Birthday."

Older students (grades 5 and above) may choose to perform a school chorus song or NYSSMA solo.

Each student will then be taken through a series of vocal exercises to further assess skill level, range, and ease of production in the head voice.

Students eligible for Harmonia and Lyric may be asked to sight-sing a short example.

The audition for A Cappella is slightly different than that of our main choirs; students will be singing in pairs.  Please be sure to sign up for the appropriate room.

To the singers...
Auditions can make everybody a little nervous, but here at LICC we pride ourselves on our kind & professional staff, who can make you feel like you are singing to an old trusted friend!  It is our goal to put you at ease so we know we are hearing you at your absolute best!

Students who are accepted to LICC will be placed into the ensemble best suited to their age and current vocal development.
